Course Design

Are you looking for an after school sport or club for your student to participate in? If so, you are making a great decision! After school sports can help build teamwork and leadership skills, as well as promote physical activity. Plus, after school sports and clubs can be a great way for your student to make new friends and build relationships with their peers.

The Colorado Archery Academy is offering after school archery courses at your school taught by your school’s P.E. teacher. The 8 week archery courses will be instructed by a licensed teacher that is archery certified by the National Archery in Schools Program. This program will take place on the campus of your school and is offered to students in grades 3rd-5th.

For all new archers participating in this program, they will learn about range safety, the fundamentals of archery, and using proper form by taking our Introduction to Archery course. Besides teaching proper shooting technique, safety is a top priority for our archers and instructors. Students will learn many aspects of archery with safety being at the forefront of each lesson. At the completion of this 8 week course, archers will be certified by the instructor and archers will receive a certificate of completion.

Once your student is certified by the instructor, they can further their archery skills and stay in the program by participating in our Competitive Shooting courses. This 8 week program will allow students to learn the world of competitive shooting and participate in local and state competitions. Each school will also have the ability to start their own Archery Team for local competitions.

POSITIVE EFFECTS OF ARCHERY

One thing that I love about archery is that it’s highly accessible. All of my students, regardless of gender, age, or athletic ability, can have fun and excel at this sport. Why I also love teaching archery, is that it teaches your child so many life skills. They learn to have patience, focus, awareness, calmness, and the importance of respecting the rules and the importance of handling an instrument like a bow.

The Colorado Archery Academy provides students many opportunities to learn new skills that will help them in things outside of archery such as: patience, focus, perseverance, attention to detail, social skills and self discipline. It also gives them the chance to find something they can work hard at and set goals for themselves, while also being a part of a team.

Students don’t need to be the star athlete to excel at this sport. Some kids have told me they never thought of themselves as being an athlete, playing a sport or being on a team until they learned the sport of archery. The archery course will be designed to allow students to have fun by exploring the sport of archery.

Another amazing aspect of archery is that it is an Olympic sport and there are many colleges, universities, and programs that offer scholarships for student athletes in the field of archery. There were over 1,500 archery scholarships awarded last year alone! So, for high schoolers who excel in archery but cannot afford college, the program would be their chance to pursue their dreams.

This course will be a great way for your student to make new friendships, memories, life skills and being part of a team.
